We aim to give all children the opportunity to understand and appreciate relationships involved in: -
- using and applying mathematics;
- shape, space and measures;
- handling and interpreting data;
- developing logical thinking
Activities are balanced between tasks that develop knowledge, skills and understanding and those that require children to solve problems and apply skills. Children are taught maths everyday and are grouped in ability sets. A variety of resources are used for the teaching of mathematics.
The children are taught methods to add, subtract, multiply and divide which promote understanding. Then, in line with the new curriculum they will be introduced to the standard written methods.
