The school has strong links with the local community and the Parent Teacher Association plays a very active part in developing liaison between the staff, pupils, Governors, parents and friends of the school. Although the Association raises substantial funds to help finance school projects, it is not intended as being purely a fundraising instrument. A whole range of regular and varied social functions are arranged to help strengthen the bond between parents and school.

The committee usually meets once every 6 weeks either at The Dun Cow and last about an hour and last about an hour. They make decisions about forthcoming events and how funds are spent.

Next PTA meeting to be announced

The PTA are always looking for willing volunteers to help with events, from serving refreshments at the school disco to decorating Santa's grotto for the Christmas Fayre. If you have any hidden talents or ideas that could be used for fundraising activities, or could spare any time to help (even if you cannot attend PTA meetings), the PTA would love to hear from you. Please contact the school office, click here for a slip to fill in and return to school or email: shaw37@ntlworld.com. You do not have to commit yourself to every event or meeting, any time you could spare would be greatly appreciated, however short.

BLUE PETER APPEAL

On Wednesday, 18th November from 3.30 – 4.30pm the PTA will be holding a Send-a-Smile T-shirt customizing session at a cost of £1.50. This is for the Blue Peter appeal, ‘Send-a-Smile’. Imagine not being able to smile or talk properly, or being teased for being different at school, that’s what its like for poor children in India with Cleft Palette, who are unable to afford an operation which in this country is offered free of charge before the child is 6 months old. To help these children we would like you to customize an old but clean t-shirt, go crazy with colour, shine with sequins, shimmer with glitter, go potty with patterns. Just 50 of these T-shirts used as hospital gowns will pay for one cleft pallet operation – a short 45 minute operation will change a child’s life.  The T-shirts should be no smaller than a small adult.  Visit www.bbc.co.uk/cbbc for more information and ideas.  The £1.50 entry will be used to purchase art equipment for the children to use.  Children attending will need to bring a clean, cotton T-shirt with them on the day.  All T-shirts decorated in school will be bagged up and delivered to Currys /PC World (authorized drop off points for the Send-a Smile appeal) by the PTA.  If you think your child would be interested in attending the event please complete and return the slip overleaf.

CHRISTMAS FAYRE – FRIDAY 11TH DECEMBER 2009

This year’s Christmas Fayre (organized by the PTA) will take place during the afternoon on Friday, 11th December 2009.  Once again we will be asking for your support in providing donations of books, videos, soft toys, bottles, tins etc.  Could we ask that all donations are clean and, in the case of food, in date. Glass bottles, jars or anything containing alcohol should be brought into school by an adult.  All donations, which should be placed in the empty classroom opposite Mrs Miller’s room, will be very gratefully received from Tuesday 1st December 2009. If you are available to help either on the day or during the week running up to the fayre, please complete and return the slip overleaf.  A reminder that children may bring money on the day of the fayre as they have the opportunity to go to the fayre before the end of the school day.

The amount raised by our Christmas Fayre 2008 was £1,950.  Thank you to everyone who supported us.

During the SpringTerm 2008 our well-supported events raised a total of £500 as follows:

School disco: £230

Bingo evening: £270

This has enabled the PTA to compile a new Wet Play Box for each classroom. They have purchased new games, puzzles and toys for inside playtimes which were requested by the children via the school council.  Money raised each year also helps pay for the Year 6 leavers' disco and barbeque and Year 6 leavers gifts.

The PTA would like to thank parents for their continued support and hope you can help raise more much needed funds during this year.
